52 year old recovering alcoholic. When I stopped drinking, I started drawing and now I cant stop. Everything I have today I owe to the program of Alcoholics Anonymous and a deep, spiritual relationship with my Higher Power. I try to carry the message and give away what was freely given to me through my art. I hope you enjoy it.
Parker Lanier's artwork is featured in the full-length documentary film produced by Sherri VandenAkker and Josh Hays, titled My Name Was Bette: Life and Death of an Alcoholic, planned for release in Spring, 2009. The film examines the development and progression of alcoholism in women, and uses VandenAkker's mother, Bette, who died from alcoholism in September, 2007 as a case study.
Lanier's artwork is used throughout the film to convey the psychological state of the alcoholic--from active addiction to sobriety. The work earned high praise from audience members who viewed the rough cut on November 23, 2008 at Springfield College, School of Human Services, Boston campus.
Late Breaking News
"Get Humble Now" was just selected to be included in Art and Addiction: Putting a Human Face on Addiction. This is an exhibit and book being published by Johns Hopkins University Medical School. As with my sobriety, this is possible only by the grace of God and the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous.
See my work at the Anchors Aweigh AA Club in Key West, Florida.
